How to draw the face of an adult?

Sketch of Pear Shape Adult Head

To draw the face of an adult, take the shape of a pear as the basic outline. In the adult the narrow part is the head and the broad part is the face.

The following features make the adult face distinct:

Sketch of Adult Face Turn Arounds
  • The forehead is small.
  • Draw thick and groomed hair over the head.
  • Draw circular eyes with pupil and angular upper eyelid.
  • No need to draw eye brows. It is possible to animate blinks with the upper eyelid.
  • Nose is large and round and protrudes from the face.
  • Mouth is smiley and located between nose and chin.
  • The cheeks and chin are round typical of a cartoon character. Even if the cheeks are made flat, a round chin will retain the cartoon nature.
  • Ears are not as much protruding as in the face of the child.
  • The basic formula:

The pear shape is the best for learning to draw faces.
It is adult, with a large face and small head.
It is child, with a small face and large head.
